Research Topics: Anomaly Detection, Electrical Sensing, and Smart Monitoring Systems

The Intelligent Power Electronics and Electric Machine Lab at the University of Georgia focuses on power electronics, electric machines, smart grids, and cyber-physical security. The lab is led by Dr. Jin Ye, Associate Professor and Founder of Electric Dots Technology. We are currently recruiting Ph.D. and M.S. students as well as undergraduate interns to join our interdisciplinary research team. Our lab focuses on sensor technology, cyber-physical system security, anomaly detection, and scalable data-driven diagnostics. The primary areas of research include:

  • Smart sensing and electrical data analytics for energy-efficient monitoring and diagnostics
  • Advanced signal processing, machine learning, and data fusion applied to electrical devices and power networks
  • Cyber-physical security and system resilience in industrial and smart grid applications
  • Scalable and real-time anomaly detection in buildings, manufacturing systems, electric vehicles, and renewable energy systems

Our flagship technology, ElectricDot, is a plug-and-play electrical sensor system for scalable and non-invasive power monitoring, offering real-time control, demand-response, and power quality analysis. Funded by the NSF PFI-RP Program, this project is backed by major industry and government partners including General Electric, USAF Robins Air Force Base, Siemens America, and NEC Labs.

Desired Background and Expertise:

Prospective students with a strong background in power electronics, electric machines, smart grids, electrified transportation, or cyber-physical system security are encouraged to apply. Prior research experience in these areas is preferred. Outstanding academic performance, relevant R&D experience, and awards will be considered a plus.

Application Procedure:
